Quick answer: The Voltric Lite 40i is a 5U (78 g) head-heavy racket with an HM Graphite frame and shaft. It comes factory-strung and is rated to 30 lbs, which is unusually high for its price band. Best for beginners and improving club players who want smash weight without a heavy racket.

Is the Yonex 40i a 40 lbs racket?

No. This is one of the most common mix-ups with this model. The "40i" in Voltric Lite 40i is a model number, not a string tension.

The Voltric Lite 40i is rated up to 30 lbs. No Yonex badminton racket in this price range is rated to 40 lbs, and very few rackets at any price are. If you have seen a 40 lbs Yonex racket advertised somewhere, the seller has misread the model name.

That said, 30 lbs is genuinely high for a 5U graphite racket at this price. Most rackets in the same band stop at 24 to 26 lbs, so the 40i gives you real headroom if you later want a tighter string bed.

Single-piece frame construction

The Built-in T-Joint moulds the joint between frame and shaft directly into the graphite layers instead of using a separate plastic connector. The result is a single-piece frame with no join to work loose, which is why this racket holds up better than most budget rackets to mishits off the frame.

If you are specifically shopping for a single-frame badminton racket rather than a two-piece build, this is the cheapest way into a genuine Yonex one.

What the rest of the technology does

  • Isometric head: squares off the head so vertical and horizontal strings run closer to equal length. The practical effect is a bigger usable sweet spot, which matters most when your contact point is still inconsistent.
  • Aero-Box frame: a rounded profile at the top of the head to cut air resistance, with a box section lower down for stability. Faster swing at the top, less twist at the sides.
  • Control Support Cap: a wider flat surface at the butt cap, which makes grip changes quicker and helps if you use a long thumb-up backhand grip.
  • Longer shaft: the Lite series shaft is 10 mm longer than standard, which adds a little leverage to the swing.

Who this racket is for

  • Beginners moving off an aluminium or unbranded racket who want their first genuine graphite Yonex.
  • Club players who like to attack but find 83 g and heavier head-heavy rackets tiring across three games.
  • Anyone who wants a strung, ready-to-play racket rather than buying a frame and paying for stringing separately.

Who should skip it

  • Fast doubles players. Head heavy at the net is slow. A head-light or even-balance racket will defend better.
  • Players who already string at 27 lbs and above. The frame allows it, but at 78 g you will feel the string bed go dead before you get the control benefit. Look at a 4U or 3U frame instead.
  • Anyone chasing the cheapest possible racket. The Yonex ZR 100 Light two-pack covers casual play for less.
  • Advanced players. This is a starter-to-intermediate frame. It will not keep up with a serious singles game.

Colours, stringing and grip

Available in black and beige. The racket already arrives strung, so you do not need to add anything to play. If you want a specific string and tension instead of the factory string, custom stringing is available as a paid option at checkout, up to 27 lbs.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Voltric Lite 40i come strung?
Yes. It ships factory strung with a full cover and is ready to play.

What is the weight of the Yonex Voltric Lite 40i?
Approximately 78 g, which is the 5U class. Grip size is G4.

What tension can I string it at?
Anywhere from 20 to 30 lbs. For a beginner, 22 to 24 lbs gives the best repulsion. We string in-house to a maximum of 27 lbs to protect the frame in transit.

Is the Voltric Lite 40i head heavy or head light?
Head heavy. That is what gives a light 78 g racket usable smash weight.

Is it good for beginners?
Yes. The flexible shaft and low weight suit a developing swing, and the Isometric head is forgiving on off-centre hits.

What is the difference between the Voltric Lite 40i and the Voltric 40i?
They are the same racket. "Voltric 40i" and "Voltric Lite 40i" are used interchangeably for this model, and the "Lite" refers to the 5U weight class.

If you order the Grip, then it will be shipped separately in a corrugated box. The grip will not be applied over the racket to avoid the removal of Barcode/MRP and other useful information. This also helps in understanding that the product is new and unused. Grip color will be assorted/Random, no specific color will be provided.

If you select Custom Stringing, the racket will be strung with the selected string at a maximum of 27 lbs (if the racket supports), otherwise, at the maximum tension the racket supports. We don't provide the facility to string more than 27 lbs to avoid transit shock damage.

If you are looking for higher tension, then we suggest that you string it at your end.

There is NO Warranty/Replacement of the strings that break during play, whether that's your first shot or 10th game.

** Custom Stringing Rackets require 2 extra days for shipping, and such orders can't be cancelled once placed.
