JOOLA Hyperion Pro V 16mm: built for hand speed and spin
The Hyperion Pro V is Ben Johns' long-time favourite paddle, now in its Pro V generation. Its aerodynamic curved head moves through the air faster, so you can react quicker at the net and stay on the attack.

Pro V technology
- KineticFrame: a slimmer throat that flexes on impact and springs back, like the kick point in a hockey stick or golf club. It helps with ball placement on drives and speed-ups.
- Propulsion Core: controlled flex inside the paddle gives a spring-like response, so you get power on counters and speed-ups without swinging harder.
- Hyperfoam Edge Wall: foam injected around the edges adds stability, enlarges the sweet spot and makes off-centre hits more forgiving.
- Textured carbon face: grips the ball for heavy topspin. JOOLA rates the Hyperion Pro V at 9.5 for spin, its highest in the Pro V range.
The Hyperion shape
Hyperion is elongated with a curved, aerodynamic head. That curve is what sets it apart.
- Faster through the air: less drag means quicker hands in fast exchanges at the kitchen.
- Extra reach: the elongated profile helps you cover more court and reach wide balls.
- Spin leverage: the length adds leverage for topspin drives and serves.
Hyperion Pro V vs Perseus Pro V
Both are Ben Johns signature paddles with the same Pro V technology, weight and size. The difference is the head shape.
| Hyperion Pro V | Perseus Pro V | |
|---|---|---|
| Head shape | Aero-curved | Rounded corners |
| Strength | Hand speed and spin | Centred sweet spot and consistency |
| JOOLA rating | Control 9, Spin 9.5 | Control 8.5, Spin 9 |
| Weight (16mm) | 8.1 oz | 8.1 oz |
| Best for | Fast hands at the net, aggressive attackers | Players who want reach with steadier contact |
Choose Hyperion if your game is built on quick volleys and speed-ups. Choose Perseus if you want a more centred sweet spot for consistency in long rallies.
Who it is for
- Intermediate to advanced players with consistent strokes
- Players who win points with fast hands and speed-ups at the net
- Spin-heavy players who attack with topspin drives
- Singles players and doubles players who want extra reach
Who should skip it
- Beginners: an elongated paddle has a smaller sweet spot than a wide-body one. A standard shape is easier to learn with.
- Players on a budget: this is JOOLA's top-end range. The JOOLA Perseus Double Vision gives you JOOLA quality and an elongated shape for much less.
- Players who want free power: the foam-core JOOLA Perseus Power FX generates more pace with less effort.

Frequently asked questions
Does Ben Johns use the Hyperion or the Perseus?
Ben Johns has signature versions of both, and the Hyperion has long been one of his favourites. He chooses between them depending on how he wants to play. Both are sold in his signature designs.
How much does the JOOLA Hyperion Pro V 16mm weigh?
About 8.1 oz, or roughly 230g. That is a mid-weight, giving a balance of stability and hand speed.
What does the aero-curve do?
The curved head reduces air resistance as you swing. The paddle moves faster through the air, which helps in quick volley exchanges at the kitchen line.
Is the Hyperion Pro V good for beginners?
Not usually. It is built for players with consistent strokes who can take advantage of its speed and spin. Beginners will learn faster with a wider, more forgiving paddle.
Should I choose 16mm or 14mm?
The 16mm gives a softer feel, more control and a 4.25 in grip. The 14mm is slightly lighter at 7.9 oz, with more pop and a slimmer 4.125 in grip. Most players are better served by the 16mm.
Is this paddle approved for tournaments?
Pro V paddles are made to USA Pickleball and UPA-A standards for competition. Check the approval marking on the paddle face if you are buying for a sanctioned event.
Is this a genuine JOOLA paddle?
Yes. SportsUncle sources every JOOLA product through JOOLA's official distribution in India. We have supplied genuine sports equipment to players across India since 2016.
