JOOLA Perseus Pro V 16mm: Ben Johns' signature paddle
The Perseus Pro V is the paddle world No. 1 Ben Johns competes with, and this is his Blaze Red signature edition in the 16mm core. It is built for aggressive players who want spin and reach without losing control in fast exchanges.
This is JOOLA's most popular paddle shape, now in its fifth generation with the new Pro V technology.

What is new in Pro V
- KineticFrame: a slimmer throat that flexes on impact and springs back, similar to the kick point in a hockey stick or golf club. It helps with placement on drives and speed-ups.
- Propulsion Core: adds controlled flex inside the paddle, so you get power on counters and drives without swinging harder.
- Hyperfoam Edge Wall: foam injected around the edges for stability. This enlarges the sweet spot and makes off-centre hits more forgiving.
- Textured carbon face: grips the ball for heavy topspin on rolls, drives and serves.
The Perseus shape
Perseus is elongated with rounded top corners. That keeps the sweet spot centred while giving you extra reach.
- Reach deep and sharply angled volleys at the kitchen line without an extra step.
- More leverage and spin on drives from the baseline.
- Rounded corners keep the sweet spot higher than on a square-topped elongated paddle.
Who it is for
- Intermediate to advanced players with consistent strokes
- Aggressive players who attack with topspin drives and speed-ups
- Singles players and doubles players who like extra reach
- Players moving up from a mid-range carbon paddle
Who should skip it
- Beginners: an elongated paddle has a smaller sweet spot than a wide-body paddle. A standard shape will be easier to learn with.
- Players with smaller hands: the 4.25 in grip may feel thick. Hold one first or choose a paddle with a slimmer handle.
- Players on a budget: this is JOOLA's top-end range. The Perseus Double Vision and Perseus Heat Vision give you the same shape for much less.
16mm or 14mm?
The Perseus Pro V comes in two core thicknesses. This page is for the 16mm.
- 16mm (8.1 oz): softer feel, more control and more stability. Better for dinks, resets and blocks. This is the version Ben Johns competes with.
- 14mm (7.9 oz): lighter, with more pop and power, but less forgiving.
If you are unsure, the 16mm is the safer choice for most players.
How it compares with other JOOLA Perseus paddles
| Paddle | Surface | Feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Perseus Heat Vision | Textured carbon | Crisp, spin-friendly | Best value, first carbon paddle |
| Perseus Double Vision | Aramid carbon | Soft, cushioned | Touch players, durability |
| Perseus Power FX | High-grit carbon, foam core | Powerful, forgiving | Easy power |
| Perseus Pro V | Textured carbon | Controlled, tour-level | Advanced and competitive play |
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same paddle Ben Johns uses?
Yes. The Perseus Pro V is Ben Johns' paddle of choice, and the 16mm core is the version he competes with. This Blaze Red edition carries his signature design.
How much does the JOOLA Perseus Pro V 16mm weigh?
About 8.1 oz, or roughly 230g. That puts it in the mid-weight range, giving a good balance of stability and hand speed.
Is the Perseus Pro V good for beginners?
Not usually. It is designed for players who already have consistent strokes. Beginners will learn faster with a wide-body, forgiving paddle and can move up to the Perseus later.
What is the difference between Perseus and Scorpeus?
Perseus is elongated for more reach and spin. Scorpeus is a standard, wider shape with a bigger sweet spot and faster hands at the net. Pick Perseus for reach and attacking play, Scorpeus for forgiveness and doubles net battles.
Is this paddle approved for tournaments?
Pro V paddles are made to USA Pickleball and UPA-A standards for competition. Check the approval marking on the paddle face if you are buying for a sanctioned event.
Is this a genuine JOOLA paddle?
Yes. SportsUncle sources every JOOLA product through JOOLA's official distribution in India. We have supplied genuine sports equipment to players across India since 2016.
